WaKeeney, Kansas

546 miles

We had a long drive yesterday...we made it from St. Louis to WaKeeney, KS. I've never spent much time in Missouri or Kansas. I'll have to admit that it is very different from my initial perception.

I had been warning the family for weeks that the drive across Missouri and Kansas would be long, flat, brown, and boring. It is long, but it is neither flat, brown, nor boring. Missouri and Kansas are both beautiful states with rolling green pastures.

We came up on an amazing site west of Kansas City. We started to notice a farm of large windmills on the horizon. The longer we drove, the more we realized how far away from us they were, and how large the must be. When we finally reached them, we could see that there were hundreds of them. I assume that these are used to generate electricity, but we didn't see any power lines (they must be underground).

We're staying at the KOA in WaKeeney. Nice and clean, with good WiFi. What more could you ask for?

By late afternoon we hope to be at the Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes, CO. The kids are really excited to see the Rocky Mountains.
