Painted Buffalo

We enjoyed our stay in the town of West Yellowstone as much as we enjoyed the park. Several things stand out about West Yellowstone. This is the place to buy Yellowstone souvenirs; not inside the park. We bought several things here at reasonable prices.

If you like Barbecue (we're fanatics), you should check-out Beartooth BBQ in West Yellowstone. I don't throw around the term “best BBQ”... barbecue is too serious a subject to be treated so lightly. I will say that the barbecue here is “as good as any I've ever had”. They had cheese grits as a side dish that tasted really like cornbread. Very good.

Shortly after arriving in West Yellowstone, we started noticing these fiberglass Buffalo's everywhere.

Then we noticed that each one had been beautifully painted with a different scene on it.

We asked one of the locals about it, and were told that there was a man in town that makes the fiberglass Buffalo's, and that different artists did the painting. It became a game for us driving around town looking for these Buffalo's.

UPDATE: I have since Googled this and found a more thorough background on the project here. All 26 of the Buffalo's are cataloged here.
