Helena, Montana

176 Miles

This was an overnight stopover on our way to Glacier National Park in northern Montana. We did take in one local attraction while we were here, the “Gates of the Mountains” as so named by the Lewis and Clark expedition.

This is about a 2 hour boat trip down the Missouri River through a canyon with these beautiful limestone cliffs.

This area was also devastated by fire last year. The tour guide mentioned that the fire burned so hot in some places that the soil is now sterile (there will be no new growth).
